As part of our commitment to our people, we sent our medical writers on a Medical Writing Academy training course to enhance and refine their skills, with a focus on career development and helping them achieve their full potential.

Some of the Wave team completed their ‘Aspiring Managers’ training programme, a series of 4 training sessions delivered over a 6-month period to equip our future managers at Wave with the training, skills and knowledge they need to support the future generations at Wave and successfully manage teams.

In medical communications agencies we mainly see two main career paths: client services and medical writing. Other roles like creatives and designers, digital specialism and operations are also present – every company is structured a little differently – but the majority of the team are usually within client services or medical writing. Wave is different because we have an important third career path: editorial.

We caught up with our very first Wave graduate trainees of 2021 to gain their insights on what it is like to join Wave as a graduate.

An account manager plans and delivers a variety of projects to meet client objectives. They are focused on quality as well as delivering on budget and on schedule. In this role you also have an opportunity to help grow the account and you will gain experience of a range of project types, from online events and websites to video production and educational tools. 

Everyone at Wave was excited to see a stream of graduates attending the office last week to take part in our first graduate recruitment assessment centre.

A Senior Medical Writer provides advanced content support across a range of channels in healthcare communications. They also support with the development of junior writers.  This role requires a high level understanding of therapy areas and scientific strategy, as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to understand and tailor content to different audiences. 

An Account Director at Wave is the operational and strategic lead on accounts, provides leadership to the team and supports the growth of the company. This is a senior client services position that combines expertise in med comms strategy, multichannel programme delivery, account development and team management.

An editorial assistant at Wave supports the team to ensure content is accurate, compliant and of the highest quality. This is an amazing entry role within medical communications, giving you a firm grounding in all aspects of producing scientific content for healthcare professionals and other key audiences.

In the next of our Career Spotlight series, we wanted to delve into the role of Associate Medical Writer. An Associate Medical Writer develops accurate and engaging scientific content for a range of audiences and channels.

A Senior Account Manager contributes to the strategic planning and growth of the account as well as ensuring quality delivery of all activities to meet client objectives. It’s a big responsibility, requiring a high level of understanding of medical communications, excellent account management and flawless project management.

A Lead Editor ensures that our content is always top quality and compliant with pharma industry regulations. In this Career Spotlight, we caught up with Ella Withey to understand a bit more about her experiences and how what she loves about her job.

In our first Career Spotlight we focussed on the role of Account Executive, the entry position in the client services career ladder at Wave, which progresses to account management. We spoke to Becky Want about her experiences of the role so far.
